Experience

Geoffrey has over 30 years of experience working in both banking and professional services specializing in corporate recovery, insolvency litigation, dispute resolutions, debt restructuring & investigations assisting stakeholders manage contentious recoveries and non-performing loan exposures. 

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Geoffrey’s role in a leading development financial institution was to oversee corporate recovery, legal and special assets cases. He then joined a professional firm specializing in corporate recovery, in reviving and managing insolvent property and manufacturing companies. 

He was pivotal in growing the firm’s insolvency practice from its infancy in 2005. In the past 20 years, Geoffrey primarily specialized in complex insolvency litigation, restructurings, liquidations, receiverships, judicial management. Strategic reviews, investigations and assisting stakeholders manage contentious recoveries and non-performing loan exposures as well as providing solutions to creditors and other stakeholders to recover assets both in Malaysia and globally. 

He has led many of the firm’s major restructuring assignments, including several of its high profile and most complex insolvency appointments. Some of his notable assignments include recovery exercise of a large pulp and paper company in Borneo with the state government’s interest spanning a period of 3 governmental administrations, all of which resulted in different potential outcomes. Geoffrey is also involved in a land acquisition assignment in the heart of Kuala Lumpur which occurred prior to Malaysia’s independence involving the Government of Malaysia. 

In addition, he has been involved in various investigative reviews and due diligence for government agencies, corporations and financial institutions on a variety of issues. He has led various independent monitoring roles as well as business review, acted on client’s behalf in tribunal proceedings on matters involving fraud and misappropriation. 

Geoffrey served as a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants Insolvency Practice Sub-Committee.
