Masataka Yokoyama is the Japan Desk Director of Grant Thornton Malaysia. He started his role in Malaysia in August 2026, providing support to Japanese companies in Malaysia in various areas such as incorporation, audit, tax and other practical matters.
Experience
Masataka has more than 16 years of professional experience in financial and internal control audits under IFRS and JGAAP with Grant Thornton Taiyo LLC in Japan. He previously led and mentored a large-scale team of approximately 50 professionals for a major global automotive parts manufacturer. He also managed complex group audits under ISA 600, coordinating with component auditors across the United States, Germany, Spain, Mexico, China, Thailand and India.
His technical experience includes Global Minimum Tax (Pillar Two), purchase price allocation, impairment of long-lived assets and new lease accounting standards. He also has extensive experience in J-SOX and internal control audits, including reviewing process documentation, identifying control deficiencies and advising on remediation and anti-fraud controls.
He is highly proficient in LEAP, Grant Thornton’s global audit software, and has a strong track record in team leadership, client relationship management and collaboration with valuation experts, actuaries and other specialists.
Beyond client engagements, Masataka has contributed to professional publications on new accounting standards and technical audit matters and also served as an internal lecturer on new lease accounting standards under JGAAP and IFRS, providing technical guidance to firm members.
