Grant Thornton Malaysia celebrates 45 years of excellence

Grant Thornton Malaysia, one of the leading audit, tax and advisory firms in Malaysia has celebrated their 45 years of establishment with a gala dinner last night.

The event was graced by Y.B. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Member of Parliament, Port Dickson as the Guest of Honour. Also present at the event was Mr Peter Bodin, Global CEO of Grant Thornton International Ltd, senior leadership team of Grant Thornton International and over 90 delegates from the Grant Thornton network around the APAC region, notable business owners and management staff of Grant Thornton Malaysia.

Y.B. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, President of P.K.R, Member of Parliament, Port Dickson in his keynote address said:

“It gives me pleasure and honour to be here to be associated with the commendable firm who has done commendable work in ensuring that there is good governance. We have seen phenomenal transformation where people from all walks of life chose through the ballot box a new government that promise good governance, democratic accountability. The pillar of this government must be good governance.”

Y.B. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also urged that creative accounting, the more problematic, contentious issues of the day should be critically analysed and this is of relevance to Grant Thornton Malaysia.

In his opening remarks, Dato’ N.K. Jasani, Country Managing Partner of Grant Thornton Malaysia said:

“From our humble beginning in 1974, we have grown thanks to the efforts of our Partners and our full Team, as well as to our Valued Clients and Government authorities. Not forgetting the valued technical and advisory support from Grant Thornton International and other Member firms.

Apart from Kuala Lumpur, we now have strong offices in Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuantan. Plus our significant office at Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We are also now planning to have an office at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.”

Grant Thornton Malaysia was established since 1974. The firm was known as Baharom Hamdan before Datuk Shamsir Omar, the first President of the Malaysia Institute of Accountants and the Accountant General from 1967 to 1989 joined to form Shamsir Jasani & Co. In the 90s, it was the leading firm for the audit of mid-sized banks and other financial institutions such as Bank Industri and Ban Hin Lee Bank.

Today, Grant Thornton Malaysia is a leading audit, tax and advisory firm with 800 employees in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuantan and Cambodia, with 38 Partners and Directors. The firms serves over 80 public listed companies and many other big GLCs and MNCs. It is They are also amongst the top 3 firms for IPO works, assisting companies to be listed successfully in Bursa Malaysia for the last 10 years.

Dato’ N.K. Jasani, Country Managing Partner of Grant Thornton Malaysia added: “Our hallmark has always been upholding the highest levels of Responsive service coupled with High quality standards and Integrity. I emphasise Integrity. Our high standards are very well regarded by our new Government. We are therefore professionally involved in a number of such Government linked investigative tasks for SSER, Felda, Lembaga Getah and others.”

Peter Bodin, Global CEO of Grant Thornton International said in his speech:

I’m so impressed with how Grant Thornton Malaysia have always been committed to developing the Grant Thornton network and especially the growth and the strategies here in Asia. Look forward to the next 45 years to come.”

The night of celebration continued with a toasting and cake cutting ceremony with the leadership team of Grant Thornton International and Grant Thornton Malaysia. After that, there was a Magunatip or bamboo dance, which wowed the international delegates and local attendees alike. The night ended with a captivating dance with a special blend of traditional dance featuring Malay, Chinese and Indian elements.
